Statement of Intent

How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words)

The concept for my magazine is to capture and show the great aesthetics which film presents. Instead of spotlighting the movie stars I want my magazine cover photos to include potential shots from a film etc showcasing the movie star in character. This will fit in well with the entertainment magazine genre as I hope my magazine will cover several instances of entertainment (Film, music, art etc). My target audience is generation Z, this is ages 16-25 AB. I want to target individuals who take an interest in the more sophisticated side of entertainment. One where film etc is appreciated instead of focusing on the direct movie star. The company I am involved in is Hearst Magazine. I think my magazine will reflect correctly Hearst Magazines core values. I want my magazine to hopefully provide information and allow the readers to be inspired to get involved in the entertainment industry essentially helping others succeed and to articulate a clear vision of what is to be accomplished. The presentation of my magazine will allow me to fulfil another core value of Hearst. The clear presentation and information given will allow the magazine to communicate effectively with the audience. I have chosen a woman to be featured on one of my front covers with a darker toned lighting. Makeup will be messy/ running off of the face of the model. This will present connotations of a cold, eerie atmosphere. Hopefully drawing in the reader, as they will be intrigued onto what film this is from and more information about the scene etc. The AB class category will nicely fir into my magazine as this group of people will be interested in the technicalities and information instead of the soul focus on the celebrity. I want to get a simplistic outfit for the mirror shot to empathize on the facial expression and makeup. I want to go for a messy, rundown theme. This I hope to be achieved by having a darker lighting arrangement.

I want a sleek minimalistic design for my website, one similar to W magazine. This sophisticated design will be suit my target audience of 16-25 AB. Few colours will draw the attention to the articles. Photos will be interesting and be the main selling point of the website. Social media is the biggest way of communication. Due to this I want my website to have ways of interacting with the magazine on multiple social media networks (Instagram, snapchat, twitter etc)

How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 words)

Both the website and the print magazine will have the same font for the title and masthead. This is key as it will allow me to build up a reputable brand and gain a consistent audience. I want my website to contain articles which will be referenced and written in the print magazine. I will use this is to promote each platform, for example more information can be found on the website or vice versa. This same principle will be used when promoting social media. Articles and information will be posted on social media platforms and use print and the website to gain a social media following. Social media is the way of the future especially with my target audience of Generation Z16-25 AB, the highest consumers of social media.
